Exchanged Life
Counseling - Who I Am In Christ
Ministering to
you as you seek to apply Biblical principles to your personal and
spiritual problems we offer a Biblical Counseling approach that
emphasizes grace, the Exchanged Life Counseling teachings and the
character of God.
The term Exchanged Life was first coined by Hudson Taylor. Hudson
Taylor was born in 1832 and began his missionary work in China in
1853. Raised by godly parents he was saved at 17 years of age and
was immediately burdened to save others. He abandoned his life first
to God and then studied and prepared to go to China.
He was a laborer, a man of great
faith and devotion to God, a practical man and a great leader.
Hudson Taylor struggled with great tragedy and deep loss his entire
life, including the loss of two wives and several children. He
suffered with serious health problems most of his life, including
paralysis for a time, lack of people and funds for the mission, and
endured harsh living and traveling conditions in a foreign land.
Hudson Taylor’s secret to overcoming his many struggles was a life
lived in faith totally abandoned and surrendered to the Lord. All
his trials made him stronger and his trust in the Lord continued to
grow. No trial ever stopped his rejoicing in the Lord. He abided in
Christ and bore the resulting fruit in his life and missionary work.
The foundation of the mission was built on God and not Hudson
Taylor. As a result the organization he founded, China Inland
Mission, still exists today.
The term Exchanged Life means walking in the Spirit rather than
walking after the flesh. The question becomes are you relying on
your efforts and resources or the power of the Holy Spirit to guide
and direct your life?
Exchanged Life discipleship is helping others understand and
experience that Christ can be their source of life in the midst of
their difficult circumstance. The overall goal of Exchanged Life
discipleship is to aid in spiritual maturity to such an extent that
spiritual truth becomes experienced reality.
The Exchanged Life discipleship model includes the following
tenants:
-
Man is born with a fallen nature,
separated spiritually from God.
-
At salvation, man receives a new
Spirit, the Spirit of Christ, or the Holy Spirit and the old
nature (spirit) is dead (Gal 2:20).
-
The flesh or old ways and
strategies of getting basic needs met still remain, as does the
power of indwelling sin. (Romans 7:20-25)
-
As believers, man has a choice to
walk after the flesh or in the Spirit.
-
A believer walking after the
Spirit will bear fruit (Gal 5:23; John 15).
In order to live the Exchanged Life the believer must renew their
mind (Rom 12:2), know who they are in Christ, live a life
surrendered to the Lord (Luke 9:23), walk in forgiveness (Col
3:12,13), and abide in Christ (John 15).
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works
and glorify your Father in heaven.
Matthew 5:16
